What's New with the Youngbloods

Hayden's last soccer game

Hayden played his last game of the season on 4/25/08 at First State Bank Park.  After starting the season with 7 kids on the team, we ended the season with Hayden, Chandler and Victoria.  These three played the entire game for the final 3-4 games.  I ended up coaching the team for the last 3-4 games also when the coach quit showing up at the games.  They made a great improvement from the beginning of the season.  Hayden finished the season scoring more goals for us than the other teams after starting off scoring several times for the other team.

Snow Day

March 4 we had a surprise snow day!  The first time this year we had enough snow to let the kids go outside and play in it.  It was gone in a few hours, but long enough for Shelley to get plenty of pictures.  The kids all got to stay home from school, including Shelley.

Hayden and Chandler pose before their first game of the season.

Hayden didn't get to practice much before the game, but he's been playing a lot since then.  By the next game he'll be scoring goals the whole game.

Hayden's first soccer game

3/1/08

Our coach was running late so I stepped in and coached our team to a 10-0 first quarter deficit.

After the game the kids run through the parent tunnel

This is about as close as Hayden came to scoring a goal, unless you count the goal he scored for the other team.

At one point Hayden had the ball in front of the goal and all he had to do was tap it in.  He got nervous and tripped over his feet and fell down.

Chandler Stansell scored two of the teams three goals on the day.  Notice the size difference, we were playing a team of 5 year olds.  Ours are all four year olds.

Murder Mystery Party

December 29th we celebrated Holly's 40th birthday with a murder mystery party.  Holly thought we were going to Benihana's up until the last minute.  The theme was the 1980's in Texas.  A rich oil family living on the Southspoon Ranch.  There were about 14 guests, each playing a part.  There were several mysteries throughout the evening, including the stealing of Twinkletoes the racehorse, the murder of RJ Harrington, and the disappearance of enough alcohol to sail a battleship.

I don't think we ever solved any of the mysteries.  I do know that I killed RJ, but no one ever found out until two days later when I told them.  Tim tried to arrest almost everyone at the party, but it was too late.  Evelyn coordinated the whole show and put a lot of work into it.

Overall it was a great night.  A 40th birthday to remember.....vaguely.

Sue Helen Butler (Billy Joe's wife) and Bobby Harrington (R.J.'s half brother and partner in Harrington oil)

Deputy Randy Coltrane (friend of Bobby's) and Lucille Harrington (R.J.'s half sister)

Left- Ali Fields (Crystal's sister and city lawyer) and Billy Joe Butler (Jack's best friend)

Right - Dolly Douglas (school friend of Lucille) and Dr Drew Morrison (a Dr. from Houston)

Jack Harrington (sophisticated oil tycoon and R.J.'s dad) and Crystal Harrington (Jack's wife and R.J.'s stepmom)

R.J. Harrington (Texas oil baron and generally mean guy)  and Dixie Green (R.J.'s girlfriend)

On December 1st, Shelley and Riley went to the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus concert in Little Rock.  Holly and Abby, and Amanda and Mary Claire and Caroline went with them.  Tickets were hard to come by, but Shelley and Holly and the girls got tickets on the floor 12 rows back.

The Jonas Brothers were the opening act.

If you've never been to the old mill in Little Rock, you should really go.  I always thought it was just an old building that was long ago a mill, but it's really interesting.  We had a photographer take some pictures and some of them turned out really good.  Mostly because the kids were so happy to be there it was no problem getting them to smile.  And we found out it's haunted.  One of the pictures we took with our camera of Shelley and Riley had an orb show up in it.  Look below for that one.

This bridge was made of rock and petrified wood

This is the orb picture.  All the other pictures we took right there had nothing in them.  Ghosts are attracted to children.

September 8th

We finally made up to the kids the bowling date that we had to skip out on a couple of months ago.  The bowling alley DOES serve beer on Saturdays, so the kids got to play this time.  We couldn't get lanes next to each other, so the adults had to sit and watch the kids bowl.

After going bowling several times during the summer with her daycare, Riley was an old pro at the bowling thing.

Hayden gets ready for his second frame ever of bowling.  He thinks this is an awesome game

His first roll of the second frame and he gets a strike.  He's excited and everyone is cheering for him.  Then I have to tell him that he doesn't need to roll another ball since he got a strike on the first ball.

He cried for 5 minutes after that.  He was so upset that he didn't get another turn.  Riley and Abby both offered to let him roll one of their balls to help him feel better.

Hayden has a new toy he likes to play with.  A set of hillbilly teeth.  I finally had to get out the video camera and film him in action one night before bedtime.

Travelers Night

On July 6th we went to the Phi Sig alumni Travelers game.  We had been in Hope all day and stopped off in Little Rock to meet everyone.  It was a really good turnout and everyone had a great time.  Lots of kids for Riley and Hayden to play with and lots of beer for the adults to play with.

Riley and Abby must have needed to clean up after eating cotton candy.  They each asked for a quarter and went to the bathroom and came out with some napkins.  Shelley and Holly had a nice talk with them about female things later.

July 4th fun - This is how the Youngbloods spent the 4th of July 2007

Shelley goes down the slide with Hayden.  He would go down all day long if he could get someone to ride with him.  Riley, Abby, and Mary Clair Ben and Tim make a graceful landing at the bottom of the slide.

They guys relax in the pool

Riley finally got the courage to go down the slide and now she can't get enough of it.

Shelley gives Caroline a ride down the slide.

The annual 4th of July fireworks show at the Bright's house.  English came through this year with some really good stuff.  Not just the snakes, smokebombs, and bottle rockets we usually do.

Speaking of snakes, English made a snake of his own.  John seems to think this was as funny as we did. (except Shannon).

No one was injured the entire night.  Not counting the big black mark above the neighbors door courtesy of one of the Zips.

June 17th at the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield MO.

Riley fell into the alligator cage, but she wasn't afraid.

Hayden get's eye to eye with a giraffe.

We took a train ride we thought would take

us all around the zoo, but it only took us

around a small pond.

Hayden's 4th birthday

Haydens class at Ms. Carries, plus Riley.

His favorite present on his birthday.  A Shrek card that sings when you open it.  I would never have believed such a small battery would play "all star" 500 times.  He slept with it, took it to school, took it to church, and doesn't let it out of his sight.  I certainly hope the battery doesn't "die" very soon.

UPDATE: Shrek card still operational, but seems to have been misplaced in a kitchen cabinet above eye level.

UPDATE II: Someone (Shelley) found the card and returned it to it's owner.  Here's the video in case you were curious.  Click here

Travis Hayden Chandler   - 8lbs 9oz

Proud papa Ryan

Looks like someone is destined to be a Nascar fan.

Larry and Laurie Chandler are now at 9 grandchildren with Riley being the oldest at 7 years old.

Jill was induced on Wednesday, May 30th in the morning.  Shelley was out of town so I had planned on driving home and picking up the kids and driving back to Little Rock to meet Shelley and see the new baby.  Shelley's plane was behind so she didn't make it, but everyone else did.  The hospital waiting room around 7:00pm looked more like a daycare center.  7 wild indians running all over the place.  Two of the indians were named Youngblood.  By 8:30 the Youngbloods had to leave and get to bed, Jill appeared to be a few hours away still.  Finally, at just before midnight, Travis came out weighing in at just under 9 pounds.  He's a dead ringer for her mother.

Memorial weekend

This is action from the bonus Sunday before Memorial Day 2007.  The Youngbloods, McKennas, Brights and Cooks all went for a night of eating out and taking the kids to the bowling alley.  After that we all came back to our house for game night and karaoke.  Looks like it was a lot of fun.  These pictures are pretty much my entire memory of the evening.

Shelley and Amanda bring it with a rousing duet (Salt n Peppa's definitely here).

The smooth, mellow song-stylings of Brad wooing the adoring fan in the front row.

Tim gets the party started with a song that makes everyone get up and dance.  Even the sober children can't sit still when Tim takes the mic.

Amanda Bright...the next American Idol

Tim Mckenna....the next Canadian Idol

The Cooks rock the house with a beautiful love song.

It was hard to wrestle the mic away from Amanda

The sisters trying a new sign they just learned

Here's a picture of us taking all the kids bowling that night before going home.

Wait a minute,  the bowling alley doesn't sell beer on Sunday.  Sorry kids, maybe next weekend.

Shelley got to take Riley to work with her for the 'take your kid to work with you day'.  That may not be the actual name for it, but Riley had a great time just the same.   She made a couple of new friends and got to do a lot of artwork.

Toadsuck Daze has become pretty much a 'run downtown and let the kids ride a couple of kiddie rides' kind of event for the last few years for the Youngblood family.  So we didn't bring the camera this time.  Of course, both the kids decided to be brave this year and ride the big rides.  Hayden and Caroline rode the ferris wheel by themselves and had a great time.  Ben took these pics with his phone.  Riley rode with Mary Claire on the tilt a whirl and with Shelley on some other big scary ride.

From now on we take the camera everywhere
